Since Flying Kites was established in September 2021 we have endeavoured to provide transparent reporting on both our growth and impact; not only to our Board, but also to our customers and wider community.
Over the past 12 months to September 2024, Flying Kites has worked with 72 people with disabilities and their families across our two service streams; Recruitment and Disability Support Design.
We have been maintaining our high success rates for our recruitment services with consistently high levels of customer satisfaction (details of this are listed below). We have seen solid growth across the regions in line with our goals to remove barriers of access and look forward to this increasing as we develop our own capabilities to work more regionally.
This year, we have also been involved in community presentations for over 450 individuals, helping people navigate the disability system, understand their supports and plan for the future. This has led to the generation of a series of ‘Understanding Your Disability Supports’ resources that we are excited to be launching soon.
When meeting new people who are not familiar with our organisation, we often are asked “How do we know you can do what you say you can do?” It’s a fair question, and as we now have several years of data to draw from, we can provide a clear breakdown of the work we do.
Who We Support:
Age Demographics
The people we have supported range from 3 to 84 years of age. There is no limit to who can access our services or when, however we do find there are particular life-stages when families are more likely to seek help - such as when the disabled person is preparing to leave school or move out of home.
In the past 12 months, from September 2023:
42% of the people we have supported have been school-aged.
79% have been under 30 years old, and 10% are over 50.
Regions
One of our long-term goals at Flying Kites is to consistently grow our ability to support families across the country, not just here in Auckland where we are based. Over the past 12 months to September 2024, 11% of our customers have been based in:
Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Palmerston North, Wellington, Otago and Christchurch.
Customer Satisfaction
Over the past three years, since Flying Kites was established in September 2021, we have helped 168 disabled people with their disability supports and recruitment.
While our reports from the last 12 months show that 98% of our customers are happy with their outcome, what we consider to be our greatest measure of success is that 29% of the people we have worked with since 2021 have returned to work with us again.
Job Seeker Networks
As we grow our services on the recruitment side of the organisation, we are also growing a fantastic network of job seekers. We have recently launched our Flying Kites Employment Network which currently reaches almost 100 people every month and is growing up to 10% month-on-month.
One of the many benefits of having these potential applicants and industry professionals within our Employment Network is that we are bringing together like-minded and motivated people who are currently seeking work, or well connected in the sector. They already understand the values that underpin Flying Kites, which increases the likelihood that we can find quality candidates for our customers and their families.
